Katy Perry's going for #3 already!

Hey KatyCats!
Really exciting news tonight! I could choose to write about Katy and John Mayer looking for a house together in L.A. (ugh) or how great she looked at the UNICEF event recently, but no, I chose to write about her talk of releasing her third album as early as next summer!
There is rumor of a new song already even. You can go to YouTube and look up her supposed new single called "Magic Love" I haven't listened to it myself yet mostly because I haven't had the time, but I am curious about it. As for the theme of this new album, Katy announced that this was going to be a "much darker" album. This would be quite the interesting turn for her, although I'm not so sure that that's how she wants it to be now. Katy had said this new album would be darker right around the time that her divorce from Russel Brand was finalized. But not that she's "really happy" with John Mayer and out of that darker place, perhaps this album won't be all that dark. Either way, I'm sure that Katy will still have chart-topping hits. She's said to still be working with Greg Wells and Bonnie Mckee whom she has been with for her last two albums, so I'm sure that if this album is dark, we can still expect a little signature Katy flair along with a great mind-blowing new sound. But that's because everything Katy does is mind-blowing. Either way, on the new sound, we'll have to wait until an official single is released to find out how this next album is really going to be.

Can't Wait! Love you KatyCats!

"You're Not a Man, You're Just a Mannequin!"

Hey KatyCats
So, I'm back to writing about Katy's songs. This time, it's another "One of the Boys" days song that not many people know. It's called "Mannequin". This is actually a rather interesting song and I think most people can relate. So, let's dive in, shall we?
As per usual, you can find the lyrics here. It really does help. Anyway, I think this song is kind of straightforward, actually. It's basically about her relationship with a man who is not expressive whatsoever. She tries to express her feelings to him, but he just doesn't react. She can't seem to get him to say anything or tell her how he really feels. In essence, he seems lifeless to her, therefore a mannequin. It's kind of sad, actually.
About the inspiration, Katy has said this about the song's inspiration:
" “Mannequin” is one of my favorite songs to play, as well. The lyrics were inspired just because I was in a relationship – I don’t know if you could actually call it a relationship – where the other person was nonexistent. They were totally having mannequin characteristics, like all I wanted to do was love and be loved in return. It just wasn’t happening. I think that it was just because of personal problems, things that they were going through. I could not get through to them for some reason. And I tried everything."
Like I said, the concept is kind of sad. The song itself though, when you listen to it is actually kind of upbeat sounding. I find it interesting when she does that. I think she really wanted to relate to a lot of people in this song. I think almost everyone knows the feeling that this song conveys. Like you have tried so hard, but you can't seem to get through to someone. Whether it is in a relationship like love-wise or in another area of your life, everyone has felt the frustration of a person not listening or the person being distant. Just another way Katy tries to relate to her fans. I love how she does that.
Well, KatyCats, I know this one is kind of short but I think that it has an okay and somewhat deep message to go with it. If you are experiencing a relationship like this you really have two choices but, in a way you only have one. You can either keep trying to get through to them but in the end you probably won't and you will be heartbroken (or maybe you actually will get through, but it will be a painful process), or you can do like Katy does and say "This one's outta my hands, I can't put you back together again." and move on with your life. It's a choice and it depends on how much you want to be with that person.
I hope this has made you think a little, KatyCats. Here's the video so you can hear the song.

Love you all,

Katy, Why John Mayer?

Hey KatyCats, I have some bad news.
There have been rumors going around for a while now that Katy Perry and John Mayer have been dating. Personally, I am NOT a fan. It actually irritates me, so I decided it was time to write about it. The first time I saw serious rumors about this was a few months ago-like, back in September. I was too irritated to write about it then. So, I left it alone, hoping it was just another celebrity dating rumor. But then the rumors were confirmed.
John Mayer is a known player in Hollywood. His past conquests include: Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Love-Hewitt, Jessica Simpson, and Taylor Swift. Being a Taylor Swift fan also, let me just say she wrote an awesome song about him called "Dear John". Katy says she doesn't want to be another one of them, but honestly, knowing him, she probably will be. She'll be heartbroken and he'll be on to the next one.
So far, they've been on-again, off-again. There has been all kinds of speculation, talk of how "Katy hopes to marry him" or how "Katy's parents threatened to disown her if she continued to date him." Personally, I think it's all stupid. The problem here is that they have neither confirmed nor denied their relationship. Now, about that rumor of her parents disowning her? Another source reported that her parents actually approve of her dating John Mayer and that they prefer him over Russel Brand. See what I mean about the rumors here? We don't know what's true and what's not.

So, Katy's sources say she thinks he may be "the one". And they say she's even thinking about marriage already. I don't think this is a good idea. Even his ex, Jennifer Aniston is warning Katy to open her eyes. A friend of Jennifer's says:
"Katy should really watch out. Take it from Jen. She's been there and done that," the source said. "And it took her years to recover. Jennifer gave John more than a year to prove himself as marriage material. Katy needs to be warned about John's hypnotic ways before its too late."
I think that's a pretty good indication of John's womanizing right there. I mean, if you read the lyrics to any of his songs, you see how much of a player he is.
Katy seems to think she can change John. But so did all the others. I think she might want to take a look at his track record. No, I don't believe in judging people based on what they have done in the past, but this seems a little too repetitive to be ignored. I just don't think she's going to make the right choice by staying with him and that she will just get her heart broken again. I just think that after all the bad-boys, she should go for someone GOOD! And that is NOT John Mayer.
So the question I want to ask here, is WHY? Katy, why?
Love You, KatyCats!

Shut Up and Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is

Hey KatyCats!
So, this was one of Katy's biggest songs on the "One of the Boys" album and it's called "Waking up in Vegas." I remember that in about the 6th grade, this was one of my favorite songs. I remember even making up a dance to it. It wasn't very good, but it was still a lot of fun because this song is a lot of fun.
This song doesn't really have a deep meaning, it's kind of all on the surface so I think I'll tell the story of the song, along with my favorite parts of it and talk about the music video and such. As per usual I will give you the link to the lyrics here. So, basically this is a song about a couple who goes to Vegas and parties and gambles. Personally I think that the chorus where she says "remember what you told me" and goes into the "Shut up and put your money where your mouth is, that's what you get for waking up in Vegas, get up and shake the glitter off your clothes now, that's what you get for waking up in Vegas" is about the fact that she started winning more money than he did and he got jealous and she is telling him to suck it up. But that's just my way of making the story more entertaining. Anyway, later in the song when she says "get me some cash out, baby" I think it's talking about her then losing a ton of money and they realize that they are broke. Ouch, that's gotta hurt. That's just my own personal interpretation, though. As for the inspiration for the song, Katy has said:
"Vegas gives me that 'what-the-f...' feeling. It's really close to LA so one night you could be having a beer with your friends and, when you wake up, you're in Vegas."

Katy has said that the song even has real-life inspiration. In an interview with PopEater.com, she revealed that she and her boyfriend of the time "decided to get fake married". She stated:

"I was 21. We took all the pictures with the minister, with the fake cake, in the fake chapel and got a fake marriage certificate. We went and bought a wedding dress and a suit at a thrift store, and scanned the pictures and the certificate to my family members, my manager at the time [and] totally freaked the crap out of them. It was the most hilarious, stupid prank I've ever pulled, I still have the wedding dress and the certificate."
She then  added that the song is not about apologizing:
"[It's] basically a song about getting into trouble with your best friend or your boyfriend or your girlfriend - or whoever you're with - and not having any 'I'm sorry for what I did'."

The song is fun and it has fun inspiration. But now, on to the video! This is probably one of the most entertaining, glitzy, bright videos I have seen. It really captures the glamorous side of Las Vegas, which makes sense because it was actually shot in Las Vegas.. It starts out with Katy and her boyfriend (I think he's her boyfriend in the video) standing in front of a slot machine. They pull the lever and three "blazing 7's" come up and the jackpot is deposited in quarters. It then goes into a flashback of the night before, where it shows the two winning at roulette. Then they head to a hotel and kick out Penn and Teller (famous magicians, if you didn't know). It then shows them playing various card games and racking up their winnings into the millions. They enjoy living the rich life. Katy drives a Lamborghini Murciélago and at the height of their Vegas fame, they are shown riding in chariots, dressed in show costumes (Katy's is above) down Fremont street accompanied by fire-breathers and an elephant. Then, Katy and the guy kiss in a money booth and things start to change. Their luck totally turns around. They start arguing, losing, and are even kicked out of their hotel room by Penn and Teller. The one thing they keep is a single coin. Then the video returns to the laundromat where Katy was at the beginning of the video. They pull the switch and win the jackpot and they look astonishingly at each other. It's a really fun video. You can see it on my videos page and I really recommend this one.
Well, KatyCats, I know in the last couple posts that I haven't really had a very deep thought to leave you with. This is another one of those posts. I guess my message here, is to "Shut up and put your money where your mouth is" if you ever wake up broke and fake married in Vegas. Also, don't forget to shake the glitter off your clothes!
Love you all,

"But When I'm With Him..."

Hey KatyCats!
So, this is kind of an old Katy song, and actually one of her firsts. She wrote this song by herself, before she was discovered as Katy Perry, and it's called "Thinking of You". As of June, it was labeled her lowest charting single to date. There's a video on YouTube of Katy performing this song in L.A. before she was discovered that was actually featured in her movie, "Part of Me". You can see the official music video on my music video page.
This song is about not being over a past love. You can see the lyrics here. Maybe it was recent, maybe a love from long ago. It's about not being able to let go of someone, no matter how hard you try. It's a very sad song, and maybe even a little angry. In the song, the girl is with someone new, but still thinks about that other boy every time she's with the new one. She's just not over him yet. She still sees him as the best she could ever have, so "I guess second best is all I will know" is how she sees this new boy that she's with.
The music video for this song is even more sad than the song itself. It's all themed in the time of World War II and it's about a girl whose lover is killed. It's kind of a montage of her memories with the boy but it also shows that she clearly still loves him and yearns for him instead of her new lover. It's really touching and dark and just really sad.
I don't really know what the message of this song is, but I think that I will try to end this on a positive note. I guess my message is this: you CAN move on. IF you've lost someone or if you have been left by someone that you were in love with, you will move on someday. It may seem like forever and it may take a really long time, but I am sure that someday, everything will be okay again. So, don't lose hope, KatyCats.
Love you all,

Now, what happened "Last Friday Night?"

Hey KatyCats!
Hope you all had a fun Halloween! In the spirit of fun, this post is going to be about Katy's most fun song: "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)". I loved this song right when I first got the "Teenage Dream" album, which was shortly after it came out. I loved this song even before it was popular. It's just really fun and a song you want to dance to.
Katy's inspiration for this song is mostly truth. You can see the lyrics here to know what I'm talking about. This song is about when Katy went out to party with friends and woke up the next morning and wrote about what she remembered. Perry stated:
“There’s nothing better than an impromptu dance party with my friends. My track 'Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)' is a song about debauchery because I had one of those nights in Santa Barbara. We went out to this place called Wildcat and got crazy,” Perry admitted: “We had a couple of beers and danced until we died, then brought the party back to the hotel room.” She added: “Most of that song is actual truth, apart from the ménage à trois… unfortunately! But, yes, streaking in the park, that’s what we did, so we had to write a song about it the next day!”
Personally, I didn't know this until just now. I think that's kind of carzy. We don't really see the party girl side of Katy very often. But I think it's really cool that most of the song is based on truth from a crazy night with friends.
The meaning of this song is not at all deep. Looking at the lyrics, it's pretty self explanatory and fits in with the "Teenage Dream" well. I mean, all teenagers love to party. So, this song really captures that aspect of teenage life.
The video for this song is, I think, the most fun part about this song. It's totally 80's themed featuring Katy as her alter ego, "Kathy Beth Terry". The video shows Katy as a nerdy teenager with over-sized glasses and headgear. The video starts showing a very messy Kathy waking up in bed with a boy passed out next to her, and she has no memory of the night before. She goes online and finds pictures from the night before and is quite shocked. It then goes into a flashback of the night before where Kathy was playing Sudoku and went over to the house next door to complain about the noise. She's invited in and is given a makeover by Rebecca Black and the transformation you see above. Black tears off the headgear with pliers, waxes her upper lip, and dresses her in skin tight neon clothing. She gets the attention of the boy she wants and it becomes a total dance party. It's just a super fun and entertaining video. The party ends up moving to Kathy's house and she vomits from drinking too much and she ends up passing out next to the "jock" whose attention she had gotten. You can see the video on my music videos page.
So, I am not totally sure if this post has a message. But I guess it's probably just to go out and have fun. Live life with no regrets. This is the time to have fun! So let's remember how great "Last Friday Night" and "this friday night...do it all again."
Love you all, KatyCats
