Some Katy Costumes...

Hey KatyCats and Happy-Almost-Halloween!
So, today I am writing about some of Katy's famous as well as not-so-famous crazy costumes. There are going to be a lot of pictures in this post. I will also give you ideas on how to achieve some of her awesome looks. Because Katy has so many crazy and fun outfits, I will only be talking about a few. I know, it's kind of sad, but I could go on forever about her outfits! I have to stop at some point!
If you are looking for a Katy Perry outfit recreation, I recommend going to the website polyvore.com They have tons of cool outfit recreations and style inspirations for just about anything-and for a lot less. It's really neat and as I said, I highly recommend it.
The first of Katy's famous outfits I want to talk about is her carousel dress. This isn't one that I think you could ever recreate. It's just too unique for that. I mean, really it's a full on carousel for a skirt. That's pretty amazing. I love all of the bright colors in the dress. It looks like there's a full carnival somehow squished into a dress. I also think that the flags coming off the dress add a nice touch.
The next costume is from Katy's "One of the Boys" days. This is the famous fruit dress. I believe she wore this on her "Hello Katy" tour. This dress would also be difficult to recreate though I think it may be more possible than the carousel dress. I think this one would take a master seamstress though. Lots of sequins and fruit to sew on this dress! I think some of the other dresses would be easier-so let's just stick with the recreation of those, shall we? I do adore this dress though. I think it has a really cool halter top and I like that the fruit was carried into the halter top. I love the whole thing and just how fun and sparkly it is.
This is one of my absolute total favorite Katy Perry dresses. Out of anything she has worn, this one and just 2 others make the top of my list. This dress is from her California Dreams tour. And (yay!) this is one that would be actually a little simple to recreate. All you need are some red fingerless gloves, a black wig (if needed), and a white dress. You can add the red trim very easily. Now I know, the main part of this dress is of course, the peppermints. How do you make those? Simple really. You can take some metallic paper and white paper and such and glue them onto cardboard is you want to save a TON of money. That shiny stuff is simply cellophane added onto the dress to seem like wrappers. As I said, simple and a wonderful, adorable costume. Or you can go online and find peppermint things just like these, I'm sure of it.
This next costume is probably the easiest Katy costume to recreate. It's also my third favorite in that top 3 I mentioned earlier. This look is just totally fun and totally 80's. It really wouldn't take much to get this "T.G.I.F." look. Some crazily crimped hair, teased bangs and a skin tight neon pink shirt, lots of bracelets, and that awesome neon green bodycon skirt and you're good to go! It's a really fun look that makes you want to just party!
Actually, I take back what I said about the peppermint dress. This dress form the "California Gurls" video is my favorite costume of hers ever. It's crazy and fun and colorful and the essence of cuteness. It's just great. Did I mention it looks delicious? This one isn't hard to recreate either, but it would be a lengthy process just getting all of that craziness onto the white top part of the dress. But personally, I think it would be worth it. It's a really cool costume and absolutely adorable. Also, if you aren't interested in putting this together yourself, there is an official costume you can buy. It's pretty cool, but not as amazing as a lot of the originals out there I have seen. In fact, this is my look for Halloween this year.
Okay, KatyCats, I hope you have enjoyed hearing my opinions about some of Katy's great costumes and I hope I have helped you get some ideas if you want to recreate these looks.
Love you all, KatyCats, and Happy Halloween!

"I can't stop, don't care if I lose"

Hey KatyCats!
So, this is another somewhat unknown Katy Perry song. This is going to be about Katy's song off the "One of the Boys" album, "Self Inflicted". At first glance, the title of this song can be a little misleading. It's actually...(wait for it) another love song! You can see the lyrics here.
I really like this song, actually. I have since I first got the"One of the Boys" album. I actually couldn't find her inspiration for this song anywhere and there are also many different interpretations of these lyrics. Some think the song is about cutting, some think it's about an abusive relationship, and some think that it's about being in love with a person and it not working out or causing a lot of emotional turmoil. I think that it is a lot happier than that, especially considering the upbeat sound of the song itself.
I think this song is about being so in love with someone that you would risk anything for them. It's about being so head over heels for a person that you don't care about any of the bad stuff you have to go through in the relationship-that the relationship itself is way too important to let anything get in the way of it, no matter what it costs you. I think this especially because of the lines "I'm going down in flames for you, baby you are the weapon I choose" and "With each scar there's a map that tells a story, what a souvenir of young love's like-jumping out an airplane, riding a tidal wave of an ocean of emotion, my heart rips me wide open" I really think this song is about being even "addicted" to someone you are so in love. Hence, the lyrics, "One more thing I'm addicted to." I think it's just all about an immense, intense love that you'd give up anything and everything for.

So, I think it's safe to say that not all of us have experienced this kind of love but I think that everyone will at some point. That's how Katy relates to us in this song. But everyone interprets it differently, therefore allowing us to relate to the song individually. So, KatyCats, try to find that one person that you will do anything for because he is out there. You just have to look hard enough and you might "get a bloody knee" or a few scars along the way but in the end it will be worth it.

Love you all, KatyCats,

It's Supernatural...Extraterrestrial

Hey KatyCats!
So, this time I decided to do another love song, though this one is a bit...different. Today I'm going to be writing all about "E.T.". I absolutely love this song with its awesome futuristic sound and heavy beat. I think that it adds a really nice electronic touch to the "Teenage Dream" album. Though she has her very popular remix that features Kanye West, I prefer the original so that's what I am going to write about.
These lyrics -link here- are really pretty straightforward, but the whole alien idea is just a metaphor. Sorry, Katy isn't hooking up with an alien here. She's talking about loving someone who is just different from everyone else. She is totally in love with a man who is completely different from every other guy she has ever been with before. It may not be on the outside (maybe it is) it could be in the way he treats her, makes her feel, or his personality could just be totally different. It's about falling for someone so hard that you don't care what other people say or think (from the lyrics "They say be afraid
You're not like the others, futuristic lover") they might be just scared because he is different-scared for her, scared she will get her heart broken. But in the end it's true love and nothing else matters. And I think it's about loving this person because they are different; about accepting and loving them for who they are.

In Katy's inspiration, she has stated about the "Teenage Dream" album that she wanted to create "a different movie" for every song (which I think she accomplished quite well) and this was totally the sci-fi movie.Katy has said that the song is about "falling in love with a foreigner" but as I explained above, I think it has a little deeper meaning than that. E.T. actually came about as an accident. Its beats were accidentally played for her during a recording session and she knew instantly she wanted to do it.In an interview with MTV about it she said
"I heard it and I always knew I wanted to write this futuristic, alienistic song, and they pulled it up and I was like, 'Wait, I can wrap my head around this. I know this seems like a long shot, but I think I have the perfect material to put on top of this sound.' And I did, and it really worked out perfectly."
And thus, E.T. was born. Isn't it great that it was? I mean, especially considering that in 2011 it was the 4th most played song on the radio in the U.S. with 526,000 plays.
So, personally KatyCats, I think a lot of people can relate to this song. It's about that one person who you can't get off your mind. That one person who is different from all the others. I think you know who I'm talking about. So, KatyCats, go find your extraterrestrial and when you do- never let E.T. go home. Don't let anyone else scare you out of getting to know him/her either because different isn't always bad. In fact, sometimes different is the absolute best.

Love to all KatyCats,

Living the "Teenage Dream"

Hey there KatyCats!
So, I know that I already posted about the ALBUM Teenage Dream. But I realized that I never posted about the song itself, and since I'm doing songs about love, I figure that I might as well do one of my absolute favorites! So this post is all about my top Katy song, "Teenage Dream".
I thought I should start with the origins of this song. Katy started her career with an "adolescent state of mind" discovered that after her One of the Boys album that she wanted to keep it that way. While writing "Teenage Dream" she had a "forever young" idea in her head. She looked all over at different artist's takes on teenage love. When she first came out with lyrics about Peter Pan...well "we wanted it to have more edge, more sex." Katy later said. They got stuck for a while and Katy said,
"I thought about my own adolescent years, my own first love. I thought about watching Baz Luhrmann's 'Romeo and Juliet' and putting on a little mini disco ball light and just dreaming of Leo. I thought about me and my friends sitting around at slumber parties in the 90’s, giddy even just THINKING about boys. [...] I thought about what Benny said and I listened to the song again, and I was like The Teenagers… that’s such a great word, Teenager. It is a very descriptive word; it packs a lot of emotion and imagery into three syllables. [...] I couldn’t believe after all of our agonizing over 'youth' themes, that we had overlooked such an obvious one – the teenage condition."
The teenage condition is very obviously love. It's what all teenagers fantasize about. Well, teenage girls anyway. Actually, even though they wouldn't admit it, I think teenage guys are ultimately looking for love, too. Everyone out there is looking for the one special person that they can spend the rest of their lives with. It's a part of who we are and what we want. And as teenagers (aka walking hormones) we will do anything to receive that love that we search so desperately for. Lots of times, we do stupid things and we realize that what we were doing in order to try and "earn" that love, isn't what love is about at all. So we get into another relationship where it feels like you haven't done anything and that love just...blossomed and all of a sudden you experience pure joy. And that's what this song is describing.
These lyrics are all about the essence of love when you're a teenager. It envelops you and overwhelms you and it becomes the only thing on your mind. And you are infinitely happy. The lyrics "let's go all the way tonight/ no regrets/ just love/ we can dance until we die/ you and i/ we'll be young forever" really capture this well, I think. We as teenagers think (and wish) that we will simply be as young as we are now, forever. We want to just stay in this age of freedom and experimentation and life. We want to just live life and really experience it for the first time ever and one of those ways is through our relationships. And that's what teenage love is all about- a world full of firsts.
This song has also been covered by tons of people and performed live amazingly well. I just thought I should mention that there is a cover by Ariana Grande on youtube -link here. This cover is amazing and I encourage you to check it out! That has absolutely nothing to do with what I am writing except that it's a cover of "Teenage Dream" but I feel that I need to include it simply because it is awesome and it's something I love.
So, KatyCats the lesson here is that teenage love is a blissful thing that Katy captured very well in this song. I feel even that it has become an anthem of teenage love. It's what I look to when I want to describe my feelings of love. And I think that was Katy's intention. Well, Katy, great job! KatyCats, this song is the perfect "Teenage Dream".

Does it Have to Be "Like the Movies"?

Hello KatyCats!
This week, my two posts are going to be about a little thing called love. This set may actually go on  for more than just this week, though I am planning to do a little Halloween-type Katy posts as we get closer to my favorite holiday. But that's not what I am here to talk about! So, love is, I think, one of Katy's favorite things to write about. I know this can be said for any artist because it is a quite the topic to relate to, but I love the way that Katy does it. She makes you think about love. And for me, I think she makes you know what love feels like even if you've never been in it before. So, with that, I will get on with my topic of Katy's song, "Not Like the Movies".
This song is (and this is all in my opinion) from the perspective of a teenage girl who finds herself pondering true love. It's about a girl who thought she was in love once but, "it didn't fit, it wasn't right" and that that was okay. It's a song about knowing that her true prince charming is still out there somewhere. So, I recommend you look here at the lyrics for this next part. There are always many ways to interpret songs, but this is my interpretation of "Not Like the Movies" I think this song is saying that, for you to truly be in love, it doesn't have to be stereotypical or movie-like. I think that love in itself is a fairytale, so your relationship doesn't have to look like one to feel like one. You don't have to have that Hollywood relationship for it to be right. Plus, love isn't always easy like in those movies. It doesn't always seem like a fairytale, and that's what this song is pointing out. It doesn't have to be "that way" for it to be love. But as long as you have that person in your life, and you know that when you met (even if it wasn't dramatic or anything) that they were going to change your life, then that's a fairytale in itself. You don't need cinematic moments (though they do happen) to be truly in love.
I guess I'm kind of repeating myself a lot here, but the point is one that I feel I need to get across. It doesn't have to be like the movies, or like the fairy tales we read as children for it to be true love. We all have those special people out there just for each one of us, and even if at first things don't work out or it doesn't seem right or it's not "cinematic" like we expect it to be...we will all experience our own fairy tales. And sometimes love is hard and things don't work out how we plan them, but if he/she's the one, you'll know. "When he's the one, I'll come undone and my world will stop spinning. And it's just the beginning." Maybe it won't be a fairy tale for you, but the point is that it will be real, and real, true love is better than any fairytale or any movie that I can think of.

Katy actually sees this song as a two-part song because she wrote the first part after her first tour, the "Hello Katy Tour". She was conveying feelings of knowing something that you didn't really know in the first part. The second part was one that she had written while she was dating Russel Brand who then later became her husband. She has said that this song was very special to her because in the first part it was a story she needed to tell and the second part made her so relieved because she was able to put all of her feelings into it.
So, KatyCats, what I want to leave you with is not to be disappointed if the love you feel is not "fairytale-like" or "movie-like" because LOVE IS A FAIRYTALE! Don't give up on it! And wait for your "prince charming" no matter how he comes about because he will be worth the wait. Because even if that love isn't cinematic...it will be real.

Love, love LOVE, KatyCats!

Let's Leave "Fingerpints"

Hey KatyCats,
To continue with my need to do inspirational songs, I decided to do Katy Perry's song "Fingerprints" from the "One of the Boys" album. It is another great Katy song that not too many people know. It was never big, but I think it should have been. It has great lyrics that are about leaving your mark on life.
You might want to click here to look at the lyrics for this next part. I think that these lyrics are for everyone who has ever doubted themselves or felt that others doubted them. These words are all about EXACTLY what they say. It's about leaving your mark on life and leaving a legacy. Every one of us is special and can do something special in this world. We can each leave a legacy to live on when we die. We can truly "go down in history" if we really put our minds to it and just DO IT. Everyone has the potential to do whatever they truly desire in this life and that is the message that Katy is communicating in this song. We each have our own lives to live and nobody can tell us how to live it, truly. That's something Katy knows well, actually. When she was signed to Columbia Records, they were telling her how her music was going to be. They told her what her image was going to be. And the truth is, if she had listened, she would not be leaving her mark right now. She wouldn't be the Katy that we know and love today. So this song is about listening to yourself and doing what your heart tells you to do.
I think this song is one of Katy's greatests, but then, I think all of her songs are great. But I think that this song in particular really has a wonderful message for the potential for greatness in all of us. We can each be remembered for the great things we will do in this life if we simply put our minds to it. So, my dear friends and KatyCats, I simply want to say, let's leave our "Fingerprints" on life. Let's each leave a legacy for the future to look at and say, "Wow, I want to be like that person." because we can.

Leave your legacy, KatyCats!

Katy, our "Pearl"

Hello, KatyCats!
So, I have felt for a while like doing a little inspirational piece so I decided to do another "not-that-well-known" Katy song, "Pearl". Pearl is one of my favorite songs on the "Teenage Dream"album, actually. It's so empowering to any girl out there who has ever felt like she was being held back by someone else. I encourage you to, as you read this, click on this link to look at the lyrics.
I think that what Katy wants us to get from this song is that we are ALL pearls. We each have a light inside of us that we cannot be let put out by anyone else. We need to let our true selves shine. And it's not okay when someone else doesn't let that happen and often it's out of fear. That's what the lines "But he's scared of the light that's inside of her, so he keeps her in the dark" are explaining. It's specifically talking about a relationship here. When you are inside of a relationship where the other person is trying to keep you down, like the song says, there is a way out. You simply have to be strong enough to get out. I read a quote once saying, "It he's stupid enough to let you go, be smart enough to walk away." That's a part of what this song is saying to us. We have to set OURSELVES free because nobody else is going to do it for us. We are an unstoppable force, each and every one of us. Each of us is unique, and each of us can be whoever and whatever we want to be. We simply have to realize that and put out minds to it.
I think another part of this is that Katy really does know where we have been. She has been in the exact same place she is describing this girl (representing each of us) is. She said in the song, " 'Cause I used to be a shell, Yeah, I let him rule my world, my world, ohh, yeah. But I woke up and grew strong, And I can still go on, And no one can take my pearl." and it's true. Katy is a pearl and I think that we should all aspire to be more like her. We can't let anyone take our pearls.
So, if you are out there reading this right now, please realize that you are a pearl, and that no one else gets to rule your world but you. I want you to realize that you are a pyramid, a hurricane, an avalanche, a pearl. And I want you to realize that you aren't stuck there. I want you to see that there IS a way out. All of us, are pearls. So it's time that we start shining like them.

Much love, my pearls, my KatyCats,
-Autumn the Purrfect KatyCat
